BYSTANDER CHARGED FOLLOWING COLLISION INVESTIGATION IN NORFOLK COUNTY

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) - An individual has been charged following a recent collision investigation in Port Rowan.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at approximately 7:37 pm, members of the Norfolk County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a sedan on Lakeshore Road in Port Rowan.
The investigation determined that the vehicle was travelling on Lakeshore Road when it left the roadway and struck a hydro pole. The driver and two passengers sustained minor injuries.
During the investigation, officers became involved in an interaction with a bystander, which resulted in the individual assaulting and threatening one of the officers. No injuries were reported.
As a result, 52-year-old Ivan FITCH of Brantford, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following alleged offences:
- Assault a Peace Officer, - Obstruct Peace Officer, - Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
